Anti-wrinkle injections
Anti-wrinkle injections are a cosmetic treatment that reduces the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines. They are a prescription-only medicine that is injected into the skin.
They work by blocking the nerve signals to muscles and prevent muscles from contracting. They relax muscles, which reduces the appearance of wrinkles where they are used forehead, between the eyebrows, and around the eyes.
Results can last three to six months, depending on skin type and lifestyle. With repeated treatments, the results can last longer.
Anti-wrinkle injections are also known as botulinum toxin injections, and are commonly associated with the brand name Botox.
Facial fillers
are injectable gels that smooth wrinkles and enhance facial contours. They are also known as dermal fillers, soft tissue fillers, or wrinkle fillers.
Dermal fillers are injected under the skin to create a smoother or fuller appearance. They can be used to reduce the signs of aging, minimize scars, and address fine lines and wrinkles. They can also be used to restore volume in hollow areas below the eyes, cheeks, and temples.
Types of facial fillers
- Hyaluronic acid
A natural component of the skin's connective tissue that is the most common filler used for wrinkles.
Calcium hydroxylapatite used to contour the jaw line, restore volume in the cheeks, and treat deeper wrinkles and skin folds.
- Poly-L-lactic acid
An absorbable, semi-permanent, injectable implant that can restore volume and gradually stimulate collagen formation.
The effects of most FDA-approved dermal fillers are temporary and may need to be repeated. The time that the effect lasts depends on the filler material and the area where it is injected.
